I was tasked to photograph Iowa National Guard Soldiers during their final evaluation for the Combat Lifesaver Course—an intense exercise known as 'The Blood Lanes.'

 

This mass casualty simulation is designed to push participants to the edge. Set in dark, smoke-filled rooms with disorienting sounds and smells, it forces Soldiers to apply lifesaving techniques under pressure. 

 

Photographing the exercise required anticipation, agility, and full manual control of my camera. With constant movement, flying litters, and low visibility, I focused on capturing the urgency and collaboration that defines this high-stakes environment
